An heirloom tomato from Russia, with large golden-orange fruits and melt-in-your-mouth flesh reminiscent of liquid honey.
What I like about Barrel of Honey is its melt-in-your-mouth texture and gentle sweetness. Its large, round to flattened fruits, with slightly rounded shoulders, have a beautiful golden-orange skin and dense flesh with few seeds. Its mild flavor is accompanied by subtle acidity and pronounced aromas. In salads, its bright color adds a lovely touch to the plate. It is also well suited to making juice and sauces.
Originally from Russia, this rare heirloom variety produces large fruits on a vigorous, indeterminate plant. Its name, meaning “barrel of honey,” evokes both the shape of its fruits and their sweetness.
Every variety has its own personality. The best tomato isn’t the one that everyone likes, but the one that finds its place in your garden, your kitchen, and your habits.
