A dark purple cherry tomato with dusky rose hues, crisp and juicy, with a sweet & aromatic flavor.
What I like about Black Cherry is the balance between its sweetness and the slight touch of acidity that brings a refreshing brightness. When you bite into the fruits, they burst in your mouth, releasing their aromas, which linger pleasantly long after tasting.
Its round tomatoes display a beautiful deep purple color, with dusky rose and sometimes brown undertones. They reach a medium size, close to that of a cocktail tomato. Their crisp, juicy flesh makes every bite particularly enjoyable. The variety also has good resistance to cracking, although growing conditions can still influence how well the fruits hold up.
Developed by Vince Sapp in Florida, USA, and introduced in 2003, Black Cherry is an open-pollinated variety that I grow in my own garden.
Its indeterminate plant, with regular foliage, produces abundant clusters of fruit throughout the season. Harvest begins approximately 65 days after transplanting.
Every variety has its own personality. The best tomato isn’t the one that everyone likes, but the one that finds its place in your garden, your kitchen, and your habits.
