A very old Italian plum-type tomato that produces beautiful clusters of oval red fruits, each ending in an attractive pointed tip. It is prized for its traditional long-term storage in hanging clusters.

What stands out about Piennolo del Vesuvio Rosso is its excellent keeping quality and the Italian tradition of hanging clusters of tomatoes in a well-ventilated place to preserve them for several months. I also appreciate its somewhat tangy flavor, softened by its sugar content, which gives it a lovely balance. The acidity is clearly present, without overpowering the flavor or giving the fruit the distinctly sharp taste found in some tomatoes.

Traditionally grown on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, this tomato is part of the agricultural heritage of Campania, in southern Italy.

Every variety has its own personality. The best tomato isn’t the one that everyone likes, but the one that finds its place in your garden, your kitchen, and your habits.
